Charlon Mckenzie

December 17, 1935 — September 1, 2016

Charlon (Sherri) McKenzie was born to Oscar and Vera Lundgren in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin on December 17, 1935 and passed away on September 1, 2016 in Hastings, Minnesota. The fourth of seven siblings, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Bonny Joy and Donna Darlene, brother Douglas (Larry), and her husband Robert (Mac) McKenzie. After Sherri’s graduation from St Croix Falls High School, she joined the Air Force at the age of nineteen, became a radar operator and was stationed in San Francisco. While in the Air Force she met and married Mac who was also in the Air Force and had two daughters, Deborah and Nancy. After she left the Air Force she went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration where she worked as secretary, administrative officer, and buildings manager. She and her husband lived to Oklahoma, Florida, Okinawa, and California. After twenty-five years with the FAA she retired and lived in the Los Angeles area. She went into acting (doing a lot of theater and auditioning for small parts, but did mostly stand-up comedy). She was proud to be a member of SAG/AFTRA (Screen Actor’s Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists). She also worked as a teacher’s assistant in Glendale, CA. Sherri later became a professional clown (POPO) and worked for children’s parties. She belonged to the Carousel of Clowns association and did volunteer work for abused children’s homes, senior citizens, hospitals, etc. She liked to take her clown suit on her travels, especially Minnesota, where she was delighted to put on a show for anyone and everyone. This, she liked to say, kept her young. Sherri moved to Newport, Minnesota to live with her niece, Candy Davis, and later moved to Oak Ridge Care Center, Hastings, where she passed away. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Tom) Pipkin and Nancy Smith; her sisters Dorothy Young, Gloria (Michael) Nielsen, and Elizabeth/Betty (Soterios) Stavrou; grandchildren Raymond Smith (Cheryl Anderson), Michelle (Dusty) Herman, and Scott (Paula) Pipkin; great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Her memorial service will be held at Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, on September 18, 3:30 P.M.
