Gus Paul Huberty

July 14, 1930 — September 26, 2012

Huberty, Paul J. 'Gus', age 82, of Hastings passed away September 26, 2012 at Regina nursing home in Hastings. Gus was a retired linesman for Northern States Power for 40 years, and a member of the Hastings National Guard, 47th Division. He and his wife, Margaret of nearly 45 years were long-time residents of Hastings, and enjoyed an active lifestyle. They could be seen on their daily walks on the west side of town or the halls of Regina hospital. Gus enjoyed golf, fishing in Canada, annual trips to Arizona, walking and eagle-watching at the dam. He was also an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Ophelia Huberty; brothers, Isadore Jr. and Charles; sisters, Mary Catherine 'Midge' Knoll, Dorothy Bauer, and Cheryl Murtaugh. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children (from a previous marriage), John Huberty; Candy (Doug) Swanson and Pam (Bernie) Johnson; grandchildren, Gina (Don) Gaiotti; Ken (Amanda) Hoops; Nick and Luke Johnson and Lisa Huberty; great grandson, Sawyer Gaiotti; loving sisters, Regina 'Jane' Doorak; Barbara (Bill) Lundberg; Rita Murphy; many nieces and nephews. Gus was blessed to have the love and support from the families of James & Faye Collins; Richard & Kathy Collins; Betty Collins; William Collins plus many dear friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Pauline unit of Regina Medical Center for their compassionate care and comfort in Gus's final years of life. Gus's life has not ended; it has changed, for God is the resurrection and the life. Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke, will be held on Tues (10/2), 11:00am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St. W., Hastings. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to mass at church. A private burial with Military Honors provided by Lyle Russell Post 1210 will be held on Wed. Pallbearers are Ryan Collins, Jason Collins, Marty McDermott, Patrick Collins, Nick Johnson, and Tom Huberty. Honorary Pallbearers are Charlie Knoll, Alice & Charlie Giefer, Pete Sandberg, Paul Kingman, Dick & Kathy Collins.
