Norbert J. Halfen

Norbert J. Halfen, age 83, of Hastings died Saturday, January 3, 2015.Norbert was born April 26, 1931 in Hastings to Henry and Elizabeth (Fox) Halfen. He served in the Army National Guard state side during the Korean War. Norbert married Dolores Hoffmann on May 1, 1954 at St. Boniface Church. He then worked for Smead Manufacturing for over 40 years as a supervisor. Norbert loved to "tinker" with cars and small engines. He also loved riding his bike and being with family.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dolores (in 2003), son Richard and infant daughter Elizabeth. Norbert is survived by 9 children, Carol (Ray) Baar, Jean (Daniel) Olivarez, Joyce (David) Evans, Henry (Cathy), Mark, Marvin (Julie) and James (Becky) Halfen, Kathleen (Maynard) Pitts and Charles (Jill) Halfen; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Beatrice Kingston, Bernice Rogers and Martha Austand.The Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Cole Kracke will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 6, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth Street, Hastings. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 PM at the church and one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
