Wlliam E. Clothier

William E. "Bill" Clothier, age 82, of Hastings died June 27, 2014. He was born November 24, 1931 in Denmark Township, Washington County, Minnesota to Forest E. and Clara S. (Johnson) Clothier. He attended local schools, graduating in 1949 from Hastings High School. He served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. He married Lucille Schluessler October 3, 1959 in Hastings. He was formerly employed as the Hastings railroad swing bridge operator and was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the VFW Post 1210 of Hastings. Bill was a daily observer and advisor of the new Hastings bridge construction project and was the first local citizen to cross the bridge. He is survived by his wife Lucille, 6 children Scott (Maggie) of Hastings, Kevin of Washington State, Jane (Jerry) Wolters, Lynda Clothier, Jim Clothier, Steve (Julie) Clothier all of Hastings; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nephews Cork and Tim (Patty) Dennison, niece Kim (Rick) Bodine. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Eve Dennison. A Memorial Service, officiated by Gordon Gathright, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 Seventh Street East in Hastings. A visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM.
